Mince Pie Eating Contest

Turkey may not be the only festive fare in shortage this Christmas as hungry competitors munched their way through hundreds of mince pies at the Wookey Hole Big Eat Mince Pie Eating Contest, in Somerset.
Twelve handpicked competitors from Britain, both professional fast-eaters known as ‘gurgitators’ and some members of the public who fancy their pie-eating abilities, competed against each with the aim to eat the most pies over a 10 minute session. With a first prize of £1000 and a chance to get into the Guiness Book Of Records, it’s not to be scoffed at!
This years winner, 34 year old Clive Pearson, from Radstock, managed to get 26 pies down to claim the prize. He’ll now be sent to take on the Americans in one of their world class championships. Hot dogs, burgers, chicken nuggets or pizza.. ? It takes fast food to a whole new level.
Professional gurgitators don’t throw up, and they’re not necessarily large or overweight people, but they can eat and eat without the food apparently touching the sides of their throats. In France it’s buckets of snails. In Japan they’ll speed-eat just about anything. All over the world crazy people earn big money by eating fast!
